Paul has some concerns with the church in Corinth, when I read this today it made me think about the church in America. How any times to we say one thing and do another? We should be diligent in our walk knowing that we accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior and that does come with life change. Are we working on our new lives being the example Christ calls us to be or are we spinning our wheels in the same mud we did before we accepted Jesus? We are new creations and should have died to our old self but that takes devotion and time, what keeps us from putting the time in so we are different? Satan will constantly use what he knows is our weakness to try and keep us from growing and glorifying God. Our job is to open up and let the Spirit lead seeking God’s wisdom for everything in our lives.
I like to see how Paul uses his weakness to humble himself and honor God. In chapter 12 verse 7 we see what Paul is working with. “…even though I have received such wonderful revelations from God. So to keep me from becoming proud, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to torment me and keep me from becoming proud. Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time He said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.”
We know we have weakness that makes us struggle and so does Satan we need to continue to grow and know God’s word so in those weaknesses we don’t act on them but follow the Spirit. Then we will understand what Paul says at the end of verse 10, “…For when I am weak, then I am strong.” Amen
