When I read this I saw how we need to be growing and seeking wisdom from the Lord always. It says, “…keep your lamps burning…” We must continue to add fuel to the fire and be expecting His return all the time. Being ready for me means that He can come back right now and I would be excited. We have to continue to grow and mature our faith so we are living examples to people that might be struggling and still trying to grasp who Jesus is.
Look at verses 39-40 which say, “Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming, he would not permit his house to be broken into. You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.” This is not a game it is a life change or heat change. God loves us so much He sent His Son to bridge a gap to Him. Are we so thankful to Him that we will do whatever we can to be ready?
Look what Jesus says in the following verses: 43 “If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward.” We do have a job to do, because we are not here to just choose salvation for ourselves but to plant seeds and be a light. Verse 44, “I tell you the truth, the master will put the servant in charge of all he owns.” He wants to use us, that’s why we are His children. Verses 45-46, “But what if the servant thinks ‘my master won’t be back for a while,’ and he begins beating the other servants, partying, and getting drunk? The master will return unannounced and unexpected, and he will cut the servant in pieces and banish him with the unfaithful.”
To me this is serious and it comes down to our faith. Do we have the faith to learn and do what God wants? He wants us to believe what He says and then be willing to die to self and do it even when it hurts. Be ready and know that He is Lord and let the Spirit, who works only in truth, lead us to take care of His house. Amen
