"Do you think I have come to bring peace to the earth? No, I have come to divide people against each other!”
I had to read this a few times today and it just stuck out to me. Jesus came to take our sins and give us a way back to the Father. Just thinking of that I see how that would not be an easy task; mainly because we are selfish and want things the way we want them. Jesus knew what He needed to do, in verse 50 He says, “I have a terrible baptism of suffering ahead of me, and I am under a heavy burden until it is accomplished.” Taking all the sins was going to be a cup He did because He loved the Father, but He knew how people were and it wouldn't be easy. He came to bring the truth and that truth will set us free, but we don't always want to hear what is right, especially when we have it set in our minds that it is wrong.
Each of us have to seek God and have a relationship with Him, that is the beginning of our separation against each other. Some desire to learn and some desire not to learn. When those two groups meet it is like oil and vinegar. When we seek God we will find Him and Jesus came so we can find Him. God doesn't want it to be difficult, see what it says in 2 Peter chapter 3 verse 9; “The Lord isn’t really being slow about His promise, as some people think. No, He is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.” When we understand that our relationship with Him will help us grow to know Him, we can see how our focus can't be on the things of this world but on Christ. When that happens there will be division among people, even families.
Verses 52-53 go on to say, “From now on families will be split apart, three in favor of me, and two against—or two in favor and three against. ‘Father will be divided against son and son against father; mother against daughter and daughter against mother; and mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.’" We must not get caught up in the world but we must understand all about Jesus and we get that from reading The Word of God. As I end this blog I want us all to keep this next verse in mind when we start our days, Luke chapter 12 verse 31. "Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and He will give you everything you need.” Amen
