This is amazing to me, but when you look at it we do the exact same thing. We make excuse after excuse of why we can’t give or serve or even open God’s word. When I read this I noticed the feast is ready for us. He has sent His Son and He has returned to the Father by His resurrection. We should be at the feast dressed properly and ready to do all that God requires, but we struggle to get past the selfishness in our own lives. God is love and He wants a relationship with us, why do we fight it and think we can do it on our own? We think when we go to church and know certain verses or sing certain songs we are good, but God wants us to be like Christ. That changes everything because Christ did nothing without the Father telling Him and He prayed all the time to have a relationship.
Look what Jesus says in Luke chapter 14 verses 25-27, “A large crowd was following Jesus. He turned around and said to them. If you want to be my disciple, you must hate everyone else by comparison- your father and mother, wife and children, brother and sister-yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be my disciple. And if you do not carry your own cross and follow Me, you cannot be my disciple.”
Are we willing to do this and be apart of the banquet or do we not really think that God’s word applies to us in every way? Do we think, well we do some things but His grace will cover what we don’t want to do.
Look at what Jesus says in Matthew chapter 22 verses 11-14 about the wedding feast. “But when the King came in to meet the quests, he noticed a man who wasn’t wearing the proper clothes for a wedding. Friend, ‘he asked, ‘how is it that you are here without wedding clothes? But the man had no reply. Then the King said to his aides, ‘Bind his hands and feet and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ For many are called, but few are chosen.”
We can’t make excuses for why we won’t follow what God wants and live our lives like Christ. He has given us everything we need to be dressed properly and He has showered us with love. We can’t hope we are dressed good enough we must show Him the love we have and live out our salvation (which is free) so we will hear well done good and faithful servant. Amen
