These are believers that are not learning or growing and they are not living what they have been learning in God’s word. It is so important for us to feed our hearts everyday with God’s word. This is how we can truly understand everything God is saying and we can live it out as we live like Christ.
In verse 3 Jesus says, “Go back to what you heard and believed at first; hold to it firmly. Repent and turn to Me again. If you don’t wake up, I will come to you suddenly, as unexpected as a thief.”
Put into action what you have learned. Remember the time you were so excited about learning and growing. Turn back to the strength you get in Christ and be ready everyday for it to be the day He will return. Opening God’s word is so important to keep us strong and continually focused. Gary Thomas wrote this statement in the book “The Beautiful Fight.” “Is it possible to be a faithful disciple and not be a diligent student? No. Contemplative prayer, social activism, fellowship, and enthusiastic worship all have their place; but if Paul declares that transformation includes the renewal of our minds, I don’t believe it is possible for us to be serious disciples of Christ is we do not also become serious students of His truth.” We must open God’s word and learn it, fill our hearts so when we act it’s godly and holy, pleasing our God.
Let’s not be satisfied with our walk, let’s fight to be the best we can and work to never hear, as it says at the end of chapter 3:1, “…I know all the things you do, and that you have a reputation for being alive- but you are dead.” Amen
