Isaiah 1

In today’s blog I would like to pose a question for you all to think about.  Are we growing or are we stagnant?  This question is so important in our walk with the Lord because we are called to continually develop and mature in our faith.  With maturity comes growth and with growth comes change.  Have you changed since you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior?  Look at your life and your walk; are you working on being better everyday?  This growth is not only the external in your life it must be the internal also.  Do you only do the things that you think are right or that people can see; like going to church, singing worship, being in a ministry or small group, wearing a t-shirt or having a bumper sticker.  These are all good things but we need to ask why we are doing them.  Is there that passionate desire to learn and grow to follow Christ because of who He is and what He did?  Or do we feel like we have to do these things because that is what we were told or taught?  I love reading and discussing what God shows me in His word and has put on my heart.

Isaiah 1:11 say, “What makes you think I want all your sacrifices?  Says the Lord.  I am sick of your burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fattened cattle.  I get no pleasure from the blood of bulls and lambs and goats.”

Why are we doing what we are doing?  Ask yourself that question when you are growing and the “I have to read and have a relationship turns to I want or desire to read and have a relationship with the Lord.  The difference is incredible, open God’s word because you love to and ask God to open your heart so you grow internally.

Isaiah chapter 1 Verse 13 says, “Stop bringing Me your meaningless gifts; the incense of your offerings disgusts Me!  As for your celebration of the new moon and the Sabbath and your special days for fasting- they are all sinful and false.  I want no more of your pious meetings.”

Our relationship with the Lord is not a job, it takes passion and desire.  Do we want a better life in this world?  If so it will take total surrender to everything we think is important and us opening up to God’s will.

Jesus said in Matthew 24:12-14 “Sin will be rampant every where, and the love of many will grow cold.  But the one who endures to the end with be saved.  And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that nations will hear it; and then the end will come.”

This sounds awfully familiar, our will is never enough, we need to fall on our knees and say “God you will be done.”  If we are living our lives as the driver we will always struggle, and what we think we are doing right will not be.

In Isaiah chapter 1 verse 15 it says, “When you lift up your hands in prayer, I will not look.  Though you offer many prayers, I will not listen, for your hands are covered with the blood of the innocent victims.”

Don’t just do what you do seek God and have purpose, and then it won’t be a job or something to check off a list, it will be what you love to do.  Amen

Psalm 1

Psalm 1:1-3 “Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers.  But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night.  They are like trees planted along the riverbed, bearing fruit each season.  Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.”

This is so amazing to think about because it is so true.  When we are self learners our hearts are full and we are ready for anything that happens to us.  The tree planted near the river bed never had to worry about water or the source of their nourishment, which is how it is when we are full of the Spirit.  Good or bad things that happen don’t make us weary we are able to still be a light and be Christ like in character.  We can still mourn but we are solid in our faith and we press forward to see how we can be used.  I love Job’s first response to the loss of all his kids and livestock.

In chapter 1 verse 21 he says, “I came naked from my mothers womb, and I will be naked when I leave.  The Lord gave me what I had, and the Lord has taken it away.  Praise the name of the Lord.”

He was sad and grieving but never blamed God, he praised Him.  Giving God some time is good, but devoting to Him is when we really transform.  Just think of anything you do; the more time you put in the easier and better it is.  There is no difference with our walk with the Lord.  As we mature it should be easier to live in obedience to what God show us in the word.  We can truly transform to be Christ like as we are told needs to happen.  Are the things that God desires from us always getting in the way of what we desire?  Do we get frustrated every time the tuff topics are talked about or do we find ways to help people follow Christ?  I want true peace that only comes from the Lord and totally surrendering to Him.  Sometimes that means I don’t get what I want or I need to do something for someone else.  We need to open our hearts and truly die to self.  Amen

Revelation 3

Revelation 3:17-18 “You say, ‘I am rich.  I have everything I want.  I don’t need a thing!’  And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.  So I advise you to buy gold from Me-gold that has been purified by fire.  Then you will be rich.  Also buy white garments from Me so you will not be ashamed by your nakedness and ointment for your eyes so you will be able to see.”

I really like Jesus emphasizing that I need to come to Him to surrender my life for nothing in this world can give me what I need to share eternity with Him.  We are not truly rich until we turn to Him and open our hearts.  What He gives is purified and is the only thing that brings true peace, which endures all testing from this world.  When we put God first and make our life around Him we cloth ourselves with the white from Christ that gives us the strength to be walking in the light so people see our faith lived out.  This will lead to our eyes opening up to what is right and true and we will not question God, we will just live saying your will be done.  Our selfish desires will fade away and we will have the ears to hear and understand what God wants us to.

Verse 19 says, “I correct and discipline everyone I love.  So be diligent and turn from your indifference.”

I think diligent is the key word; don’t hope you will just be filled, open God’s word with the love that God showed us by sending His Son to die for our sins.  Nothing in our lives can get in the way of our time with God.  We need to work hard to give God our best in all areas of live; finance, talent, and time and grow everyday to be better than we were.  Amen
