““Rabbi,” his disciples asked Him, “why was this man born blind? Was it because of his own sins or his parents’ sins?” “It was not because of his sins or his parents’ sins,” Jesus answered. “This happened so the power of God could be seen in him.”
This was just amazing to me as I read it today. We are so easily caught up in our circumstances that we take our eyes off the only thing that can help us. Jesus sees this blind man as a instrument of light, yet the disciples see what is wrong with him. They ask, whose sin made him blind? We can’t get caught up in what happens in this world because it is not our home. No matter how tough we think it is, God says, I got you! I won’t change your circumstances but I will love you and help you be a witness to my love.
This is in all things, not just blindness. We can’t make up different things because of our physical differences or because of our feelings. What I have seen more and more of is that this world wants us to think of our feelings as truth. WRONG, our feelings are just that, our feelings. They don’t give way to what gender we are, or make us drop truth because it feels better. Not my will be done is forgotten but it is the most important thing we do after accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior of our lives. Our feeling is our will, Jesus is saying, he's not blind because of any sin, he’s blind because this is how the power of God could be seen in him. When we praise Jesus in the storm it makes an impact. Read about Paul and Silas being severely beaten and singing praises in the book of Acts. People look at that and they are confused and seek answers. God didn’t cause their beating, God didn’t cause the mans blindness, God doesn’t make us confused on our gender or our feelings. He also doesn’t make us kill or steal, these are things that happen in this world because it is a fallen world.
God is saying, no matter what this world throws at you, surrender your will and give Me glory. I love what it says in Romans chapter 8 verse 28; “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.” This world will push its agenda with money, fame, success, anything that we think in our flesh is important. See when we deny our flesh we give glory to Him and we can fully show that we love Him. Say no to this world, to our flesh, and to our feelings so that we can be a true example of a fully devoted follower of Jesus. Amen
