Matthew 13:24-30

Matthew 13:24-30 “Here is another story Jesus told:  “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a farmer who planted good seed in his field.  But that night as the workers slept, his enemy came and planted weeds among the wheat, then slipped away.  When the crop began to grow and produce grain, the weeds also grew.  The farmer’s workers went to him and said, ‘Sir, the field where you planted the good seed is full of weeds!  Where did they come from?  An enemy has done this!  The farmer exclaimed.  Should we pull out the weeds?  They asked.  No, he replied, you’ll uproot the wheat if you do.  Let both grow together until the harvest.  Then I will tell the harvesters to sort out the weeds, tie them into bundles, and burn them, and to put the wheat in the barn.”

Jesus says to leave the weeds or you will pull out the wheat also.  I had a feeling when I was reading this that this is why bad things happen to good people.  Satan has snuck in through Adam and Eve and has planted the weeds.  We grow together with hopes that the good will grow more than the weeds, but God doesn’t want to chance loosing the wheat by pulling out the weeds yet.  The weeds are working just as hard to kill the wheat, who will work harder to grow more?  Are we willing to fertilize our soil by adding more of God’s word and plugging in, or do we let everything of this world entice us from truly living for God.  Things may seem to be fun and needed for us to live but they are physical and weeds planted by the devil.  Physical pleasure is meant for husband and wife’s, not for us to use as entertainment.  If you can’t understand this maybe you need to check what you are plugging into.  Don’t be caught up in the seed that fell on shallow soil.

Matthew 13 verse 5-6 says, “Other seeds fell on shallow soil with underlying rock.  The seeds sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow.  But the plants soon wilted under the hot sun, and since they didn’t have deep roots, they died.”

Continue to grow; seeking God’s wisdom and help your roots grow deep.  Amen

Matthew 5

Matthew 5:44-48 “But I say, love your enemies!  Pray for those who persecute you!  In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven.  For He gives His sunlight to both the evil and the good, and He sends rain on the just and the unjust alike.  If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that?  Even corrupt tax collectors do that much.  If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else?  Even pagans do that.  But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.”

We are called to be better than everyone else that doesn’t follow God.  We need to work on growing in wisdom and understanding so we can stand apart and do the things we are supposed to do.

In chapter 6 verse 1 it says, “Watch out don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in Heaven.”

I like this because it reminds me that I need to just live and follow God.  It shouldn’t be a chore or a job that I can say I am finished.  It needs to be a way of life and naturally done because I have devoted myself to learn from God and I practice everyday to act like Christ who is perfect in every way.  We are not perfect but we can grow and learn to do what Christ did and work our hardest to be a light to people.  When we just live to follow his example people see that and are eager to find out why.  We should work hard so people don’t categorize us with the hypocrites, they just see the good.  Amen

Genesis 4

Genesis 4:6-7 “Why are you so angry?  The Lord asked Cain.  Why do you look so dejected?  You will be accepted if you do what is right, but if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out!  Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you.  But you must subdue it and be its master.”

Sin is waiting for us at all times that is why we need to continue to study and learn from God so we can be ready.  It said that Cain must “subdue it and master it.”  We can do this by turning to Jesus and following His example and living for God in everything we do.  Our strength to master it is in Christ, and when we devote to Him we can master sin and not let it control us.  As Jesus says work hard, don’t try and do it alone.  Amen

Luke 21

Luke 21:18-19 “But not a hair of your head will perish!  By standing firm, you will win your souls.”

This was written by Jesus telling people they will be hated and even killed because they were following Him.  But look how amazing what He says in 19 is, “By standing firm, you will win your souls.”  We need to love God with every part of us and work on filling ourselves with His wisdom and love.  When we do that we can truly be fully devoted followers of Christ.  In the book “When God Writes Your Life Story” Leslie Ludy writes, “As I abide in the presence of my King, a holy instinct guides my steps.”  I like this because it is so true.  As we draw closer to God we are full of the Holy Spirit and we function as we should without thinking.  We naturally do what is right and our hearts are full.  Oswald Chambers wrote this after he realized he was going through the motions of his Christian walk.  “When you know what God has done for you, the power and the tyranny of sin are gone, and are replaced with the radiant, unspeakable joy of Christ dwelling within you.”  Is Christ dwelling within us?  He should be when we choose to be baptized and repent of our sin.  Our focus should be off the world and on what the word of God says.  It is not just a book of stories; it is the inspired word of God given to us so we can always have a relationship with Him.  Open it and talk to Him, ask, seek and knock in all areas of your life.  Don’t try and do life on your own.  Amen
