“He died for everyone so that those who receive His new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.”
Jesus went to the cross, not for certain people, for everyone. But only a few will believe and receive Him. Our words don’t show that we have accepted Him as Lord and Savior, our actions do. It says, “...those who receive His new life will no longer live for themselves...”
It doesn’t mean we don’t fall short of His glory, it means we confess and repent when we do and we grow. We don’t live for ourselves! When we live for ourselves we think we are owed something, or we deserve to do what feels good. That is not receiving a new life, that is living how we want but saying we want the benefits of something new.
I have a mission statement for myself and I believe when we surrender we have a chance to truly live for Christ. It’s helping people who believe in Jesus, belong to Jesus. Many people believe without surrendering and they are stuck in their old life, Judas is an example of this lack of surrender and enjoying a new life in Christ. Do you see yourself stuck in the same old rut? Let go and let God, the change will be amazing.
Again, you are not perfect or greater than anyone else but you understand that pleasing Him is of utmost importance. Our desires start to become less and His work becomes more, that is surrendering our will for His. We are shown this example of surrender by Jesus and the Holy Spirit who now lives in us. What better examples to follow? None! Get up, pray and read the Bible daily, getting to know Him personally. Then belong to Him, saying, here I am use me. Let your old life go and start living for Him.
Look what it says in verse 17, “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” Amen
