1 Samuel 12

1 Samuel 12:24-25 “But be sure to fear the Lord and faithfully serve Him.  Think of all the wonderful things He has done for you.  But if you continue to sin, you and your king will be swept away.”

When I read this it just made me think how incredible it was for Jesus to sacrifice for us to please the Father.  Do we realize what we have when we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior?  Are we faithfully serving Him and saying not my will be done but yours?  It is important to pray and open God’s word so we can continually turn to God for understanding and be full of the wisdom it takes to follow Christ and be different.  In 1 Samuel he tells Saul what will happen to him as he has been selected by God to be the first king.

1 Samuel chapter 10 verse 6 says, “At that time the Spirit of the Lord will come powerfully upon you, and you will prophesy with them.  You will be changed into a different person.”

That should be all of our focus when we accept Christ; we should change into new people.  If you notice it took the Spirit of the Lord to fill him.  We need to ask, seek and knock for the Spirit to be strong and over power us so we can be the best devoted followers of Christ possible.  We can never be satisfied with where we are at; we need to work hard to shine for people so they can see our actions as we honor God in all we do.  Amen

Psalm 34

Psalm 34:4-5 “I prayed to the Lord, and He answered me.  He freed me from all my fears.  Those who look to Him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.”

It is something else to pray and believe that God hears you and is there.  When we surrender and open our hearts to God we can truly learn and the Holy Spirit opens our heart and we transform.  We can believe we are strong enough to endure but all of us need to forget our worldly strength and rely on the Lord to fill us.  It says we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us, so why do we work so hard to help ourselves?

Psalm 34:10 says, “Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing.”

This does not say we will lack trouble or trials it means we can have the true joy and peace that comes from the Lord when we die to self.

In verse 19 we see that it says, “The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time.”

Where do we turn when we are in trouble?  We need to open God’s word and fill our hearts with the wisdom and knowledge He has given to us so we can live on earth as it is in heaven.  We need to remember that we need to be living in this world but glorifying God with our lives.

I would like to close with Psalm 34:22 which says, “But the Lord will redeem those who serve Him.  No one who takes refuge in Him will be condemned.”  Amen

Psalm 31

Psalm 31:19 “How great is the goodness you have stored up for those who fear you.  You lavish it on those who come to you for protection, blessing them before the watching world.”

This verse just made me think of how amazing God is and what He did to show His love for us.  When we truly realize what Jesus did for us we can truly open our hearts to God with reverent fear.  Then we can surrender our will (what we think we desire) and focus on glorifying God with our actions.

In 1 Samuel 2:1 Hannah prays this; “My heart rejoices in the Lord!  The Lord has made me strong.  Now I have an answer for my enemies; I rejoice because you rescued me.”

Do we rejoice and give thanks to God for Him sending Jesus and rescuing us or do we forget and focus on the world?  Hannah was rejoicing that the Lord would give her a son and then she dedicated him back to the Lord to serve Him.  We need to rejoice daily for what the Lord has done and be thankful.  Thankfulness is mostly shown by our actions not our lip service (My opinion).  What are we doing to live out our faith and be a light to the world just as Jesus was?  When we fear the Lord we focus on Him and wee seek him and a relationship is started.

Hannah says in verse 2, “No one is Holy like the Lord!  There is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.”

Just think of this for a moment today, is God your “Rock” or are you trying it on your own?

Pray this prayer, Thank you Father for being my rock and sending your Son to be my example.  Please fill me with the Spirit and His strength so I can totally lean not on my own strength but look up and know you are there.  Amen

Romans 14

Romans 14:7-9 “For we don’t live for ourselves or die for ourselves.  If we live, it’s to honor the Lord.  And if we die, it’s to honor the Lord.  So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.  Christ died and rose again for this very purpose – to be Lord of both the living and the dead.”

This is so hard for us to understand, we need to die to self as we accept Christ and live.  It is so easy to think it is for (me) but we should become a group of servants thinking of others.  What we like should be put on the back burner so we can help others experience the love of Christ which is truly amazing.

In chapter 15 verse 13 it says, “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him.  Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”

We need to open our hearts and live by the Spirit, working hard to live a life that resembles Christ’s.  We learn more and can grow more when we open God’s word and ask Him to show us what to do.  Then the Spirit will fill us more and more and we can live to honor God not ourselves.  Then people can see that we are real and different.  That servant heart is what plants the seeds and our maturity waters it and then God makes it grow and blossom into people being fully devoted followers of Christ.  We need to fill ourselves with God’s word and prayer so we are always developing into the people God intended.  Amen

Psalm 18

Psalm 18:30 “God’s way is perfect.  All the Lord’s promises prove true.  He is a shield for all who look to Him for protection.”

The key phrase in this scripture is “for all who look to Him…”  Are we looking or are we waiting?  The world and our lives can make us so busy that we feel we can’t look for anything.  What we end up doing is asking but not really waiting or listening.  We also need to seek and knock because that is where the transformation takes place in our hearts.  God’s way is perfect, so what keeps us from fully committing to follow Christ?

Verse 32 say, “God arms me with strength, and He makes my way perfect.”

Are we turning to God for our strength our do we just want to handle everything on our own?  The more we try to learn and grow the more we will face challenges and the more challenges we face the stronger we can become if our focus is on Him.  I am a firm believer that filling ourselves daily with God’s word builds our hearts and mind to react as a light to the world and live in Christ strength not our own.  This is a never ending journey that will take our full devotion no matter how much we grow and mature.  If we don’t feel this way, we open the door for complacency.

In Romans 12:11 it says, “Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.”

How does that look in your life?  Never be satisfied.  Amen
