Colossians 2

Colossians 2:2-3 "I want them to be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God’s mysterious plan, which is Christ himself. In Him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."

I love Paul's heart for believers to understand everything that comes with Jesus being Lord and Savior.  As we grow in Christian love we become knit together serving for the same purpose, that is Jesus. And we are able to gain the wisdom and knowledge to keep us focused on Him.  If the entire plan is Jesus Christ Himself then we have to know Him so much that we can act like Him.  The more we learn and grow the more the Holy Spirit fills our heart and leads us to see how to live like Jesus.  In Colossians chapter 2 verses 6-7 it says, "And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow Him. Let your roots grow down into Him, and let your lives be built on Him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness."  This is how we grow and deal with the world that is around us trying to keep us stuck in our own pleasures and fears.

Being in Christ is knowing Him and when we know Him our lives change.  In verse 10 it says, "So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority." We are complete because of our union with Christ, not because we know Him but still try and do life on our own.  We unite and we surrender our will and then the Holy Spirit fills us and shows us the truth.  In John chapter 10 verse 13 it says, "The hired hand runs away because he’s working only for the money and doesn’t really care about the sheep." When we aren't in union with Christ it is easier for us to run away, but when our roots grow deep we are thankful and we do what the Holy Spirit is telling us. And our faith matures so we are not moved so easily by the world and the lies it tries to have us believe.

We need to long for and desire God's will which as it says at the end of Romans chapter 12 verse 2, "...is good and pleasing and perfect." We need to stay connected and let what Jesus is showing us be what we crave and continue to seek His will so we grow and fulfill the ministry God has for us.  Amen

1 Peter 2

1 Peter 2:24
"He personally carried our sins in His body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed."

I look at this and I see His power in us, moving us from where we were to where He is.  I love the fact that it says, "so that we can be dead to sin..."  So many try to hang on to the crud that brought them down and He has killed it.  We need to believe it and be strong, learning and using the tools He has given us.  God won't move us without us joining in, but He does give us all the tool to be able to move.  When we open His word for transformation, God transforms us.  When we pray and ask for guidance, the Holy Spirit guides us.  Relationship means working together to become closer, and that is what God wants from us.

In 1 Peter chapter 2 verse 16 it says, "For you are free, yet you are God’s slaves, so don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil." We are called to learn and live as Christ would live.  So I say lets do it with His power in us and surrender our thoughts so we are victorious over this world.  Our mind will race and make us feel things that are temporal and worldly, that's why it is so important to renew our minds daily with what God has given us.  Peter says it perfectly in 1 Peter chapter 2 verses 2-3 "Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness."

He says to "crave" it so we can grow, and "cry out for this nourishment" because you have tasted it.  Think of something you tasted and then couldn't get enough of, that is how it should be with Jesus.  There is no better nourishment than doing God's will, so let's eat it every day.  Amen

James 1

James 1:12 "God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him."

This is why it is important to have a relationship with the Lord and keep on seeking everything from Him.  It says we will be blessed when we 'patiently endure' temptations and testing.  Endure means that they will happen, He doesn't say; know my Son and your life won't have testing and temptations.  This world is not our home and when we focus on Jesus as Lord and Savior we are patient to be home someday.  God doesn't tempt or give us trials to test our love, we grow to know Him and He gets us through them.  Look what it says in chapter 1 verse 13; "And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and He never tempts anyone else."  When we open our heart up and we let the Holy Spirit fill our heart we understand this and we don't get in a rut when life happens, we know there is a way out through Christ.  In verses 14-15 it says, "Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death."

The world will continue to fill our heads with things that entice our feelings and when we don't fill up with God's truth we get unbalanced and we live by our feelings and do the things that satisfy our flesh and that will lead to death.  I love what it says in verse 17; "Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow."  We must hear this and believe this, He is the same always and is only good, so we can be confident and patiently endure whatever goes on in this world because we know it's not God.  We did not choose this, God chose us, and He wants us to confess with our mouth and believe in our hearts so we can start to understand His word.  Verse 18 says; He chose to give birth to us by giving us His true word. And we, out of all creation, became His prized possession."

That is what should make us thankful in all things and patient when this world happens and we start to get tired.  Praise God for His love and His choosing of us, I pray that we choose Jesus and our heart fills with love.  Amen
