Titus 2

Titus 2:11-13 “For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people.  And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures.  We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God, while we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed.”

We are called to be different and to glorify God in the way we live.  It is an evil world that will continually challenge and tempt us because we know this.  We should be ready for the attacks and never be surprised by what this world offers.  It says, “…we should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God.”  This takes studying and prayer so that we can grow in our understanding and our lives can continue to change to resemble Christ’s.

I love the fact that it states “devotion to God.”  We all seek to be fully devoted but do we put the time in and devote ourselves to God?  It is hard to let go of all the worldly things we devote to but that is why we are different.  We die to ourselves and what this world shows us and we “devote” to honoring God.  When we fill our hearts with the Spirit we can understand how important self-control is and how important patience is as we live every day to glorify Him.

We need to know that our example is so important because our failing helps the devil keep people from seeking.  Jesus came for all people to know Him and love Him and follow Him.  We need to repent and confess and then do all we can to learn from God’s word so we can show the love of Christ in all situations and in how we live.  God is love and sent His Son to bridge the gap back to Him, and the Holy Spirit drives us back home when we surrender the control.

In Titus chapter 1 verse 15 it says, “Everything is pure to those whose hearts are pure.  But nothing is pure to those who are corrupted and unbelieving, because their minds and consciences are corrupted.”  Be pure and know the truth and be a warrior for Christ.  Amen

Titus 2:11-15 “For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people.  And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures.  We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God, while we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed.  He gave His life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us His very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.  You must teach these things and encourage the believers to do them.  You have the authority to correct them when necessary, so don’t let anyone disregard what you say.”

We must be believers willing to change and understand that we need to look at Christ and live as He did.  We just can’t believe who He is and say thanks; we need to show our belief by living it out.  We get too caught up in the comfort of the story of Jesus; we think just by acknowledging that we are good to go.  But Jesus asks us to be new creations and different.  He says, “…go and sin no more.”  We must be in awe of what He did and see how worthy it is for us to live our lives working on obedience and showing our love for Him by changing our heart.

Romans 2:28-29 says it best; “For you are not a true Jew just because you were born of Jewish parents or because you have gone through the ceremony of circumcision.  No, a true Jew is one whose heart is right with God.  And true circumcision is not merely obeying the letter of the law; rather, it is a change of heart produced by God’s Spirit.  And a person with a changed heart seeks praise from God not from people.”

When this happens we live to please Him not ourselves and we can go out and be a light teaching people to be like Christ.  Amen

Titus 3:4-5 “But – When God our Savior revealed His kindness and love, He saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy.  He washed away our sin, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.”

Think about this, He takes us where we are at.  He didn’t send Jesus for all the people that were perfect.  He sent Him so we can learn from Him and be what we are supposed to be, servants for the Lord.  He washed away our old lives and gave us the Holy Spirit to guide us and help us choose what is right.  We need to understand that Jesus already came and has ascended, that can’t be changed, but we can be by the Holy Spirit that lives in us.  Are we feeding the Spirit by getting our knowledge and wisdom from the Lord or are we feeding our human nature by filling it with the things of the world?  We are what we feed.  I truly believe that the more we feed ourselves with God, reading His word and praying He strengthens our ability to choose what is right.

In the book “Christian Atheist” by Craig Groechel he said something that I really liked.  “When we live thirsty for God, God will satisfy that longing.  And as we continue to seek God, we’ll grow to know Him more and more intimately.  When we hear God’s voice we’ll recognize it instantly.  We’ll talk to God all the time and miss Him when circumstances distract us from His presence.  We’ll build a history together, storing up story after story of shared experience.  We’ll love God.  We’ll trust God.  We’ll know God.”  We should all long for this relationship with the Lord because this is where true peace in this world comes from.  Amen
