Galatians‬ ‭4:31‬ ‭NLT

‬‬
“So, dear brothers and sisters, we are not children of the slave woman; we are children of the free woman.”

Reading in Galatians today I really felt the importance of us understanding the story of Hagar and Sarah. Hagar was given to Abraham because of the impatience that built up in Sarah, verse 23 “The son of the slave wife was born in a human attempt to bring about the fulfillment of God’s promise..."  When they waited for God timing this is what happened, verse 23, "... But the son of the freeborn wife was born as God’s own fulfillment of His promise.” The Bible tells us, patient endurance, because His timing is perfect, we want to do what is right but we get anxious and start our own plans.

Paul is sharing to the people in Galatia that they are free from the law because they know Jesus, the one who accomplished the law. Matthew chapter 5 verse 17, “Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose.” When Sarah had Isaac, he set up what God promised and could be free because it was God's plan. We are children of the free woman, and that allows us to surrender our hearts and let the Holy Spirit lead us and guide us to Jesus. Sarah, who offered Hagar in her own weakness now was saying to Abraham in‭ Genesis‬ ‭21:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬  “So she turned to Abraham and demanded, “Get rid of that slave woman and her son. He is not going to share the inheritance with my son, Isaac. I won’t have it!” We are free because of Jesus and if He fulfilled the law, and He did, we are able to learn, grow and be patient to remember His timing is perfect. We are never too bad or too stuck for change to happen.

When we seek,  we will find, so we keep studying and we keep believing so we develop to know the promptings of the Spirit that lives in us. ‭Galatians‬ ‭4:26‬ ‭NLT “But the other woman, Sarah, represents the heavenly Jerusalem. She is the free woman, and she is our mother.” We need to remember that this world is not our home and our ultimate place is set by God in heaven and He sent us the only bridge to return, Jesus, so let's stay focused on Him and live in Him. Amen

Deuteronomy 29

Deuteronomy‬ ‭29:29‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“The Lord our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever for all that he has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions.”

This was an eye opener for me today, we always want to focus on what we don't understand, we need to stop and focus on what He has shown us and then do it. If we spent our time taking the commands of Jesus and worked on living them out, the things we don't understand wouldn't consume our thoughts. Also, as the word says in Matthew chapter 25 verse 23, “The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’” When we are successful in little actions God has shown us people can see the difference and they get intrigued by our lives.

When we try and do too much, and we don't live it very well, we don't shine as bright as we could.  God wants us to know Jesus, His one and only son, as our Lord and Savior.  As we work on that, our belief should turn to a desire to belong to the family, then our actions lead us to be the hands and feet of Jesus. That means getting in the game and making things happen. Be in a church you love so you desire to be the church and invite the unchurched around you. Get in a lifegroup or small group, so you can build relationships and grow together. Serve in a ministry, becoming part of the solution and helping do the work of the ministry. Jesus came to serve and show what it is like to love, let's not worry about the things we don't understand, do the things we do.

I want to end with these scriptures, Matthew chapter 22 verses 37-39 “Jesus replied, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Amen
