“So it is God who decides to show mercy. We can neither choose it nor work for it.”
We need to understand that it is about our surrendering to His will. When we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit who will show us what Jesus desires. He will also make sure it aligns with God’s word. What it won’t do is keep us from experiencing the bad in this world or the diseases that are rampant in our human bodies. Look at what is said in Romans chapter 9 verses 11 and 12, “But before they were born, before they had done anything good or bad, she received a message from God. (This message shows that God chooses people according to His own purposes; He calls people, but not according to their good or bad works.) She was told, "Your older son will serve your younger son." This the story of Issac's two kids Esau and Jacob and how their mom Rebekah heard this from the Lord. Esau was going to serve his brother Jacob even though he was older, when we surrender to God’s will we can handle any kind of news.
t’s about knowing that God loves us all so much He sent His one and only Son so that we could be home for eternity with Him. Our flesh will keep us desiring more and that is good when we don’t let our pride step in and try and move us where we shouldn’t be. John the Baptist understood this well and we see that in John chapter 3 verse 30, “He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.” It is not about our status it is about our willingness to be fruitful and do whatever it takes to help people know Jesus.
To think back at the opening verse; we can’t choose to have cancer or some other disease. And we can't choose who gets shot at a school or at a concert. And we can’t choose if we get hit by a car or a drunk driver. We just know that God’s love has made us new and when we believe and have faith in Jesus we have a permanent home that is full of love, with no more tears and no more pain. We can’t get caught up in anything this world gives but we can let go and do the best we can because the Spirit is leading us.
I love how we see a great picture of Jesus showing us this in John chapter 21 verses 21-22 “Peter asked Jesus, “What about him, Lord?” Jesus replied, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? As for you, follow me.” We need to just follow Him and shine a light in this dark world and make sure that light is Jesus because He is the way, the truth, and the life. Amen
