“People and animals alike must wear garments of mourning, and everyone must pray earnestly to God. They must turn from their evil ways and stop all their violence. Who can tell? Perhaps even yet God will change his mind and hold back His fierce anger from destroying us.” When God saw what they had done and how they had put a stop to their evil ways, He changed His mind and did not carry out the destruction he had threatened.”
What I like about this is that it shows that we are never too late to stop our ways and accept His. This city, it says, was so big it took three days to see it all and still they all came together, followed each other in prayer and fasting. They all decided to not care about their personal preferences and desires and they chose to try it His way. We are all in this same boat, and we all need to understand where our problems come from, us. Look what it says in James chapter 1 verses 13-15, “And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and He never tempts anyone else. Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.”
Let’s all decide to make a change in our lives and turn to Him for peace, joy, and hope, then we can see and hear clearly what God is saying and showing us. When we call ourselves Christian or fully devoted followers of Jesus, let’s embrace it and come together in prayer and surrender so we can be a start to people making the change. We need to stop pointing fingers and start looking in the mirror. When we all start with ourselves the change can take place in greater numbers. We are a Christian nation so let’s live that way and not give into this world but let God transform us so this world wants to change like the people of Nineveh. Amen
