Isaiah 33

Isaiah 33:15-16 “Those who are honest and fair, who refuse to profit by fraud, who stay far away from bribes, who refuse to listen to those who plot murder, who shut their eyes to all enticement to do wrong – these are the ones who will dwell on high.  The rocks of the mountains will be their fortress.  Food will be supplied for them, and they will have water in abundance.”

It is so important to ground yourself in Christ and live lives that resemble how He lived because this world will throw things at you all the time.  If you are not prepared and even sometimes when you are prepared you go through emotional highs and lows.  I really have to seek God constantly to stay on top of what the world throws at me and work in Christ strength not my own.

Colossians 3:15has helped me in this journey when I have struggled with clarity.  It says “And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts.  For as members of one body you are called to live in peace.  And always be thankful.”

We need to stop and remember this verse when anything comes into our lives.  Christ surrendered His will and we need to be open to surrender ours when we are living to please God and not man.  The peace that comes from above is more incredible than any peace we think we can get from our money or job or physical feelings, so we need to stop and think outside our own self and work to please Him.  We are called to be different and that is good when we are grounded in the Lord, so open God’s word and let it transform you to be Christ like.  Amen

Isaiah 33

Isaiah 33:5-6 “Though the Lord is very great and lives in heaven, He will make Jerusalem His home of justice and righteousness.  In that day He will be your sure foundation, providing a rich store of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge.  The fear of the Lord will be your treasure.”

Just think of that, He does give us a rich store of salvation, wisdom and knowledge but do we have that loving fear to surrender to Him.  We are so consumed with our own pleasure and comfort we forget there is no peace like heavenly peace.  We try and fill our lives with meaningless treasures or idols and we stop fearing the Lord.  I went and saw Dr. David Jeremiah on Thursday and he shared this story:  A man in Haiti was trying to sell his house for 2000 dollars and he had a man not that well off offer 1000 dollars.  He told the man; I will sell it to you for a thousand but you need to let me keep ownership of this one nail in this beam.  He agreed and bought the house.  A few years later the man wanted to buy the house back but the new owner wouldn’t sell it to him.  So the man that owned the nail put an animal carcass on the nail in the house and it started to smell so bad the man ended up selling it back to him.  Dr. Jeremiah concluded with this “If we even leave a small peg in our lives for the devil he will use it.”  The lord is our treasure and all we need to know and learn from.  We can’t say we love God and still want to live a life that is of the world.  This can never be a statement that comes from our mouth, I fear the Lord but I still need to do this or I am comfortable doing that.  What pegs do we have in our lives that give the devil a foothold?  Open God’s word and ask for the wisdom and knowledge that He offers us all and then surrender to His will and remove all the pegs that keep you down.  Amen

Matthew 13

Matthew 13:11-12 “He replied, ‘You are permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven, but others are not.  To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given, and they will have an abundance of knowledge.  But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them.”

How important is it for us to open our hearts to receive God’s word?  This is right after the parable of the wheat and the disciples are wondering why Jesus teaches in parables.  Are we listening to everything God is saying or do we pick what we want to hear?  Wisdom and knowledge are at our feet if we are willing to open God’s word and have it transform our hearts and minds to be like Christ.  I truly believe listening takes us surrendering to self because when we listen with our hearts clouded by the world we get confused.

In verse 22 it says, “The seed that fell among the thorns represents those who hear God’s word, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life and the lure of wealth, so no fruit is produced.”

Is the world clouding what you hear?  We need to open up and surrender to God’s teaching and grow to be like Christ.  We can’t say, I will do things that are easy but I still like curtain things of the world.  We all need to work to be the seed that falls on the good soil.

In verse 23 it says, “The seed that fell on good soil represented those who truly hear and understand God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!”

What does your walk look like, is it producing fruit or is it for your own comfort?  Step out of the comfort and start living out what you are learning.

I love Matthew chapter 12 verse 50 which says, “Anyone who does the will of my Father in Heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

We can’t just listen we must do, living out our faith is amazing and helps produce the fruit God desires.  Open His word and live your life the way you are shown by Christ.  Amen

Romans 8

Romans 8:12-14 “Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do.  For if you live by its dictates you will die.  But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live.  For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.”

Think of how important it is to fill our hearts and minds with God’s truth.  We should seek to grow and learn everyday to be Christ like.  I truly feel the Spirit gets louder and moves us away from our sinful desires when we put God first and are seeking Him above all else.

In Romans chapter 6 verse 4 it says, “For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism.  And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.”

We are new, our lives are different and we should act as we were different, we do not need to do the things we did before.  Our advocate is the Spirit of God and we need to remember what God did for us every time we feel the Spirit moving us in a positive way.  Slow down and react to the Holy Spirit, it is what keeps us from living the way we want and knowing what is right.  Be strong in the Lord and always be willing to learn and grow.  Amen
