Luke 3

Luke 3:8 “Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God.  Don’t just say to each other, ‘We’re safe, for we are descendents of Abraham.’  That means nothing, for I tell you God can create children of Abraham from these very stones.”

We can’t just sit back and think we are good and not try and live out our faith by learning from God to live our lives just as Jesus did, fully devoted to God.  God has given us the most amazing gift in the world and we can’t do anything to earn it, Jesus came for all of us, but we can choose not to accept it and take it for granite not doing anything that is honoring to God.  When we open our hearts and fill up with the Spirit we desire to learn and live like Jesus did loving God the Father and working to do His will.  Even Jesus did something; He did God’s will even when He wanted out.  Three times He asked God to take this cup of suffering but not my will be done but yours.  How many times do we say I believe in Christ but we still act and do what our will desires not what God desires?  When we choose not to have a relationship by putting God first and being the hands and feet of Jesus we get this warning.

Matthew 7:21 says “Not everyone who calls out to Me, ‘Lord!  Lord! Will enter the kingdom of Heaven.  Only those who actually do the will of My Father in Heaven will enter.”

In Luke 6:46-47 says; “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord! When you don’t do what I say?  I will show you what it is like when someone comes to Me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it.”

Do we believe in Jesus but don’t want to live according to God’s will?  That is scary, why would we live for this world and think going to church or giving or having a bumper sticker does anything for you.  The gift is for everyone but the prize is for the ones that choose life and Jesus is that life.

In John 14:6 Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one can come to the Father except through Me.”

And He says in Mark 8:35, “If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it.  But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.”

Accept the gift and use the gift, don’t let it be something that is left in your closet collecting dust because you only believe.  Be fruitful and willing to live for God so you never have to hear as Jesus says in Matthew 7:23 “But I will reply, ‘I never knew you.  Get away from Me, you who break God’s laws.”  Amen

Deuteronomy 8

Deuteronomy 8:3 “Yes, He humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors.  He did it to teach you that people do not live on bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.”

How well are we learning and living God’s word?  Do we even try to know it so we can live by His word?  We need to open it and realize it is not just a book of stories to keep us entertained; it is what we need to know to live as fully devoted followers of Jesus.  I believe He warns us about the American dream and how crazy our belief of more is better.

In verses 10-14 it says, “When you have eaten your fill, be sure to praise the Lord your God for the good land He has given to you.  But that is the time to be careful!  Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the Lord your God and disobey His commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today.  For when you have become full and prosperous and have built fine homes to live in, and when your flocks and herds have become very large and your silver and gold have multiplied along with everything else, be careful!  Do not become proud at this time and forget the Lord your God, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt.”

Remember all that we have as American’s and how easy it is for us to put God after all our stuff.  We need to put God first and be thankful that we were put here in America to spread the Good News about Jesus and live to honor God by our actions.

Think about what it says in Deuteronomy 8:18 “Remember the Lord your God.  He is the one who gives you power to be successful…”  Amen

Deuteronomy 4

Deuteronomy 4:7-8 “For what great nation has a god as near to them as the Lord our God is near to us whenever we call on Him?  And what great nation has decrees and regulations as righteous and fit as this body of instructions that I am giving you today?”

I look at that and say how amazing, we have a God who loves us so much He gave His only Son to die for our sin.  When we accept Him and learn to live to be like Him we show God how much we love Him.  Nothing should be more important to us than that.

In Deuteronomy 5:7 we are told the; “You must not have any other God but Me.”

Not money, a spouse, children, or our possessions, nothing can come before God.  I love in Deuteronomy 6 verses 4-6 it says, “Listen, O Israel!  The Lord is our God, the Lord alone.  And you must commit yourself wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today.”

That is going to take some work on our part, but how amazing life is when we are living in the Spirit.  God was so serious that He gave His Son, He keeps telling the Israelites to remember How He recued them out of Egypt.  We need to remember how He gave His Son so we can learn from it and use it to help us with our lives.  We need to ask, seek and knock so we can understand as much as He wants us to.

We are told in Deuteronomy 6:20 “In the future your children will ask you, ‘What is the meaning of these laws, decrees, and regulations that the Lord our God has commanded us to obey?

We can tie it into the New Covenant and say with passion and excitement what Jesus did for us and how amazing God is.  We should love God so much that we wholeheartedly accept Jesus as Lord and Savior and be His hands and feet.  I am too tired or busy should never come out of our mouths.  Having a relationship with Him and growing everyday should be our number one priority, it shouldn’t be a job to fit God in it should be what we love to do.  Amen

Mark 13

Mark 13:35-37 “You, too, must keep watch!  For you don’t know when the master of the household will return-in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or at daybreak.  Don’t let Him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning.  I say to you what I say to everyone:  Watch for Him!”

Us keeping watch is us staying alert, growing everyday to understand how to live like Christ.  We have got to practice what we preach and be able to truly love God unconditionally.  We see all the things of the world and it is easy to get caught up in them so when we choose to live by faith we must feed our faith and fill our heart with the love of Christ.  Christ’s love for the Father outweighed anything else as He lived here on earth.  We too must have the same devotion and passion to live for God and give Him all the glory.  At the end of verse 37 it says, “Watch for Him!”  Don’t just be looking be living.  We are told to ask, seek and knock so don’t be comfortable with your heart, mind and soul, we should be feeding all of them everyday so we can be ready for the day to day crud that will happen in life.  Think of how short life really is, and then think how long eternity is.  It is hard to imagine but it is amazing when you look at it as Jesus explains it.  Amen

Numbers 25

Numbers 25:10-11 “Then the Lord said to Moses, Phinehas son of Eleazar and grandson of Aaron the priest has turned my anger away from the Israelites by being as zealous among them as I was.  So I stopped destroying all Israel as I had intended to do in my zealous anger.”

God loved the fact that Phinehas was so concerned with honoring Him and that he was bold in his devotion to the Lord that he blesses him as you keep reading chapter 25.  I know this is Old Testament but I really feel God loves when we are zealous for Him and stand up for Him when people are not living a way that is honoring to Him.  Zealous means; full of, characterized by, or due to zeal; ardently active, devoted, or diligent.  Do these characteristics show in our walk with the Lord?  I thank God for Jesus and shedding His blood so my sins can be forgiven.  That makes me want to work harder to live and love like Jesus did and be a zealous follower of Him.

Mark 8:38 says, “If anyone is ashamed of Me and my message in these adulterous and sinful days, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when he returns in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”

Read it and live it and have the zeal to pronounce your love for the Lord.  Amen

Mark 10

Mark 10:24 “This amazed them, but Jesus said again, ‘Dear children it is very hard to enter the Kingdom of God.”

He continues on about a rich person but I feel He was telling everyone that it was hard.  Why do we want it easy?  We are gaining eternal life that is perfect why would we expect it not to challenge us?  We must totally die to self and learn to focus our entire life on glorifying God.  We do this by following the life and way of Jesus who lived perfectly for God.

In verse 27 it says, “Jesus looked at him intently and said, ‘Humanly speaking it is impossible.  But not with God.  Everything is possible with God.”

I say forget what you want, you have to become fully devoted forgetting the statement “I want” and fill your self with God’s word so you can fully give your heart to Him as Christ did.  I like this quote from the book “Jesus According to Scripture, by Darrell L. Bock.  He said “Not every servant with a seeming connection to Jesus will end up blessed, because some will not have embraced Him and will end up with nothing.”  This quote was in reference to the parable of Ten Servant in Luke chapter 19:11+.  Don’t be satisfied with your life, aim for more as Paul says in 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 “Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize?  So run to win!  All athletes are disciplined in their training.  They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.  So I run with purpose in every step.  I am not just shadowboxing.  I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should.  Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.”

So I say set out to be the best you can be and meditate on God’s word so it flows from your heart.  Amen

Numbers 14

Numbers 14:17-18 “Please, Lord, prove that your power is as great as you have claimed.  For you said, The Lord is slow to anger and filled with unfailing love, forgiving every kind of sin and rebellion.  But He does not excuse the guilty.  He lays the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected even children in the third and fourth generation.”

This made me think about what I do, do I just continue to live to please myself knowing God is slow to anger and filled with unfailing love?  We need to really open God’s word and read it so it sinks in and makes us grow with His wisdom.  Because we don’t see Him and get the immediate response to things do we think we can get away with how we’ll live?

At the end of Numbers 14 verse 34 the Lord says, “…Then you will discover what it is like to have Me for an enemy.”

Why do we try and do it alone?  Believe and have faith to change your life letting Christ be the mark we always aim for.  The Israelites wondered for 40 years because they were impatient, what are we impatient about and think we deserve or want?  Think about it, is it really worth wondering in the wilderness?  We live for an incredible God that has promised us eternity with Him when we accept His Son and live as he did, constantly learning and working to grow.  We need to learn to love Him always and open His word to see how we can prepare now for eternal life.  Amen
