1 Samuel 12:24-25 “But be sure to fear the Lord and faithfully serve Him.  Think of all the wonderful things He has done for you.  But if you continue to sin, you and your king will be swept away.”

When I read this it just made me think how incredible it was for Jesus to sacrifice for us to please the Father.  Do we realize what we have when we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior?  Are we faithfully serving Him and saying not my will be done but yours?  It is important to pray and open God’s word so we can continually turn to God for understanding and be full of the wisdom it takes to follow Christ and be different.  In 1 Samuel he tells Saul what will happen to him as he has been selected by God to be the first king.

1 Samuel chapter 10 verse 6 says, “At that time the Spirit of the Lord will come powerfully upon you, and you will prophesy with them.  You will be changed into a different person.”

That should be all of our focus when we accept Christ; we should change into new people.  If you notice it took the Spirit of the Lord to fill him.  We need to ask, seek and knock for the Spirit to be strong and over power us so we can be the best devoted followers of Christ possible.  We can never be satisfied with where we are at; we need to work hard to shine for people so they can see our actions as we honor God in all we do.  Amen

1 Samuel 15:22 “But Samuel replied, what is more pleasing to the Lord:  Your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to His voice?  Listen!  Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.”

Saul was told to destroy fully the Analekites, all people and animals but he decided to keep the king alive and the best of the animals.  Why I wanted to write on this is because Saul understood what he was supposed to do but his want for things clouded his judgment.  In our walk with the Lord Do we want to obey but are so easily talked out of it by our own desires?  Our obedience is so pleasing to God and our effort to learn more and more is what keeps us in relationship with Him.

In verse 20 Saul says, “But I did obey the Lord…”

He really felt that he did even though he kept all the best of the livestock.  I feel when we devote ourselves to being obedient we can grow to become better at following His example and more aware of our denial and self satisfaction.  We need to fill ourselves with the Holy Spirit daily and continue to as it says in Philippians in the middle of verse 12, “…Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with reverence and fear.”

Never be satisfied with what you know, always seek more wisdom from the Lord and remember Jesus is the example we need to accept and follow.  Amen

1 Samuel 12:20-21 “Don’t be afraid, Samuel reassured them.  You have certainly done wrong, but make sure now that you worship the Lord with all your heart, and don’t turn your back on Him.  Don’t go back to worshiping worthless idols that cannot help or rescue you they are totally useless!”

Samuel is telling Israel they should have never asked for a king because God was their king, but they always wanted something more.  I liked this because it fits our lives, we have done wrong but we need to turn to the Lord and love Him above all else truly living to glorify Him.  We hold onto things so tightly that it causes us to use God as filler in our lives.  He must be what motivates us to live, Jesus is our perfect example and we must learn how to truly die to self and become fully devoted followers of Him.

Verse 24 says, “But be sure to fear the Lord and faithfully serve Him.  Think of all the wonderful things He has done for you.”

All we need to think about is Him sending Jesus to die for our sins, that is enough, God has shown us His unconditional love and unbelievable love.  Now we need to accept that free gift and live our lives to be like Christ by filling ourselves with all the wisdom from God and trusting in what He has done.  Amen

1 Samuel 15:22 “But Samuel replied, ‘what is more pleasing to the Lord: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to His voice?  Listen!  Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.”

This really made me think about truly learning from the Lord so I can be obedient in all I do.  I don’t just want to learn what to do; I want to do what I am shown by God.  At the end it says “…submission is better than offering the fat of rams.”  Submission is dying to self and fully living for God as Christ did.  Saul goes on to plead and at the end of verse 24 he say, “…for I was afraid of the people and did what they demanded.”  Do we live to please people or do we live to please God?  Pleasing the world is way easier than pleasing God and obedience is work.  I say dig in to God’s word and work that is the only way you will be able to submit to His will.  Everything we are told and shown when we follow Christ ends with eternal life.  We should have no other focus than asking, seeking, and knocking to learn to live out our faith to our true Father.  Amen

1 Samuel 12:24 “But be sure to fear the lord and faithfully serve Him.  Think of all the wonderful things He has done for you.”

I love that last part, “…Think of all the wonderful things He has done for you.”  All you need to do is think of Him sending His only Son to die fro us.  We have received such a gift of eternal life, and we have directions and the Holy Spirit to guide us everyday.  We work so hard to please people and we neglect the most important thing; learning and living like Christ.  We need to live our lives as Christ did unselfishly, but we struggle with selfishness everyday.  It’s hard to be unselfish that’s why it is so important to open God’s word and read it as our owners manual for right living.  God was so amazing to put it together so we have something to go to for our wisdom.  It is so easy to fill ourselves with crud because crud is always happening around us.  We need to realize that God’s word is also there everyday and we need to open it and live it.  Why are we so easily persuaded to follow the new craze and learn how to use it so well we master it, but when it comes to being a fully devoted follower of Jesus, the only thing that matters, we can’t give it anytime at all?  Just think of the time you spend doing insignificant things throughout your day, and then think of how many times you don’t give God a minute because you are busy or tired.  Nothing should come before God.  Jesus put nothing in front of Him and we are told to be like Christ.  Open God’s word and truly be devoted to follow it and see your heart change.  Amen
