2 Timothy 3

2 Timothy 3:17 “God uses it to prepare and equip His people to do every good work.”

While reading today I just noticed verse 17 and I realized this is why it is so important to open God’s word and learn.  In verse 16 we are told, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realizes what is wrong in our lives.  It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.”

There is nothing more important for us developing and growing to be like Christ.  The first three words in verse 17 are, “God uses it.”  Well that is why we need to open it and open our hearts so we can change.

As I looked at the beginning of the Gospel of John in chapter 1 verse 1 it says, “In the beginning the Word already existed.  The Word was with God, and the Word was God.”  This should motivate us to be in the word and live by what it says.  We have got to get our focus off the world and off ourselves and go to God as an open vessel.  When we know the word we are comfortable in all situations to be an example and live it out.

Chapter 4 verse 2 says, “Preach the word of God.  Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not.  Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching.”  If we as fully devoted followers of Jesus can’t open His word and learn how can we consider ourselves fully devoted?  And if we aren’t excited about sharing our faith and celebrating true life how can we be fully devoted?

I want to pray for my growth and the growth of all believers that there be total focus and passion to learn to be like Christ.  Think about chapter 4 verse 5 as you self-evaluate yourself.  “But you should keep a clear mind in every situation.  Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord.  Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God have given you.”

We need to make our walk real and active just as the word is.  Amen

2 Timothy 2

2 Timothy 2:22 “Run from anything that stimulates youthful lust.  Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace.  Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.”

We are called to be different and we need to continue to work with others that seek the Lord.  The devil will pry and scheme to derail us from the narrow road and if we don’t have our tools sharpened and the people around us it will be hard.

In chapter 2 verse 15 Paul says, “Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive His approval.  Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and correctly explains the word of truth.”  We as fully devoted followers of Christ need to be just that, fully devoted, never being satisfied with the knowledge we have.  We need to correctly explain the word of truth and that takes study and asking, putting in the time to grow and build confidence.

In the book “not a fan” by Kyle Idleman he states this about calling ourselves Christian; “If you call yourself a Christian, by definition you are committing to follow Christ with every area of your life.  It doesn’t mean you will follow perfectly, but you can’t say, I’m a “Christian” and then refuse to follow Christ when it comes to certain people or places or practices.  We cannot coast our way through this world, after we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior we must begin our jobs as “bond servants” to Him and work on being all we can be to make a difference and be a light to this dark world.

2 Timothy chapter 1 verses 6-7 say, “This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you.  For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love and self-discipline.”  Once we hear, confess and repent our baptism starts our new lives in Christ and we need to learn and grow to be warriors for Him not just fans.  Amen

2 Timothy 4

2 Timothy 4:3-4 “For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching.  They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear.  They will reject the truth and chase after myths.”

This is so important as we grow and seek the Lord.  I truly feel that our walk with the Lord needs to be one that is constantly asking for understanding.  We are to live as Jesus did, He was our example to follow, and He lived fully in God’s will.  He didn’t say, your will be done, but I feel this would be better for me.  He never said your will be done but I was born this way so I can’t change.  No Jesus surrendered to God and lived a way that was glorifying to the Father.  Our walk with the Lord is not about our physical feelings or our comfort; it is about modeling Christ by using the gifts He has given us and sharing our faith with love.

Verse 5 says, “But you should keep a clear mind in every situation.  Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord.  Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you.”

We are to equip ourselves and go into the world and be the hands and feet of Christ.  We also need to have a relationship with the Lord and seek His wisdom everyday.  It is good to find a church that teaches the truth and is challenging so we can move towards Him.

In verse 2 Paul tells Timothy, “Preach the word of God.  Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not.  Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching.”

If you are looking for something that feels good, you will find it, but it is probably of this world and not of God.  Follow the ways of Christ and live obeying what God has given us even when it is hard.  Amen
