When we are growing and seeking God we will know what God has gifted us with because we have the Holy Spirit that will show us. Pray about which one or ones you have and live them out in love. Use these gifts to honor and glorify God and be thankful for the strength God has given you to help others know Him.
Paul goes on to ask these questions in verse 29-30, “Are we all apostles? Are we all prophets? Are we all teachers? Do we all have the gift of healing? Do we all have the ability to speak in unknown languages? Of course not!” We must understand that God loves us and has made us who we are so we can make Christ’s body complete. Should we ask for more gifts, of course, but not to the degree that we are upset if we don’t have the ones we want? God gives us what He wants us to have because He knows best and we might not have the right motives for having other ones.
In chapter 13 Paul shares that without love none of these matter. We can do things with our gifts and if we are not doing them in love we are not helping the Kingdom. Verse 7 says, “Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”
This is what we need to know. God is love and His love is perfect and He loves us so much He sent His Son to die for us when we were sinners. (Read John 3:16) His love never waivers and either does Jesus’. He loved the Father so much that He said not my will be done but yours, even when He had to separate from the Father to take our sin on Himself.
It says in John chapter 15 verses 13-14, “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you so what I command.” Jesus did and we are called to love like that, how is that going in your life? Just think and then read 1 Corinthians chapter 13 verse 13 which says, “Three things will last forever faith, hope and love – and the greatest of these is love.” Amen
