This can only be done when we open our hearts to learn and grow. We can’t imitate something we don’t know and we can’t follow an example if we think we are in control. This takes us learning and opening His word so we can understand what and how we need to live. I am reading a book for a class written by Mark Moore called, “Seeing God in HD,” and he shared this statement that really hit home. “Yet, like a track star, if we are to keep from landing on our faces as we run our hurdles, we will need to train a bit to make sure we can rise above our own narrow world and enter into the world(s) of the Bible.” This training is so important as we develop and transform into the children of God that we all can be. I truly believe this also takes us letting go of the control and listening to what the Spirit in us is saying.
Paul shares in Ephesians chapter 4 verses 23-24, “Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God – truly righteous and holy.” Just reading that gets me excited to learn more and start living a new way. As we see and feel more change in our lives we desire even more and our study becomes the most exciting part of our day. It is not something we feel we have to include in our day it is something we don’t want to miss in our day.
Paul tells us in chapter 5 verses 10-11, “Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them.” As we imitate God our lives change and so does our heart and living like Christ comes more natural. God is not looking for perfection but He is looking for desire and willingness to give up our lives as Jesus gave up His. This desire is all based on love and our acceptance of the wonderful free gift God gave us in Christ.
We must remember as we grow and change it is not us in control it is us dying to self and working on living for Christ. I love what Paul shares in Ephesians chapter 5 verses 15-20, “So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Let’s open our hearts and God’s word so we can do all we can to live in this world bringing the qualities of heaven here on earth so people can see how amazing Jesus is. Amen
